Pharmacy Related Stuff on Visual Novel
Alright, I have quite free time now. Basically it’s the perfect time to brainwash your mind with my fabulous (but useless) arguments and I shall bring the solid proof to convince you even more ! Fuahahahahaha !
Like the title said, I’ve read too many Visual Novels within this last year and I found some interesting facts regarding Pharmacy :3. I tried my best to compile them, but maybe I missed many than I thought, it doesn’t really matter, right ? Many of them are sci-fi VNs (yes, I’m a huge fan of SF, but not with robots and mecha stuff), but some of them are not. Don’t let it discourage you if you’re not into that stuff :p
Now, without further ado, let me list them one by one
1. Never 7
The predecessor of Infinity Series. For those who don’t know, Infinity series is relatively popular VN with sci-fi genre worldwide. While the major plot deals with time loop and philosophical things, they still presented the biology-related topics, such as The Law of Cloning and Human Genome Project.
2. Ever 17
The best among the Infinity Series. It deals with time loop, philosophical, and biotechnology stuff just like its predecessor, but with more advanced way of story telling, more plot twist and manymanymany stuff you’ll not regret.
Ever 17 is the tale of seven individuals who come to be trapped within the underwater marine theme park, LeMU, 51 meters below the surface. During an apparently normal day at the park, an incident occurs, placing almost half of the facility underwater. The path to the surface and the communication lines are cut off. In addition, LeMU is under constant assault by severe water pressure, limiting time to find a means of escape to 119 hours. Escape is not the only concern, however many questions arise as to the legitimacy of the accident and whether or not those trapped there were brought there for a purpose.
As the situation grows more desperate, the people trapped inside LeMU grow closer. They begin to uncover the answers to mysteries about themselves, LeMU, and the situation itself. As the end of LeMU grows nearer, so too do the mysteries and relationships forged by the situation grow deeper.
As we progressed through the story, we learn a fact that Tsugumi, one of the survivors, is Cure Virus Carrier. Let’s peek her confession on this VN.
“12 years ago, I was infected with a virus. The virus rewrite my genetic code. Cells in peoples body are replaced daily. They are reborn, and then die. Normally, the human body is totally replaced with hew cells within five years/ When I was twelve, the cells in my body were infected. And from that moment on, they divided and replaced themselves. Five years later, all cells had been replaced. In five years, every cell that made up my body had been genetically altered. And when the last of the cells had died…the last trace of my 12-year old self disappeared. In that moment the old me died.”
“The old me died, but the new me became a body that never dies. My immune system and my metabolic rate were remarkably improved. My telomeres began to regenerate themselves. That’s right…I will never grow old, and never die. My physical growth stopped at that moment in time. I’ll never grow older than 17.”
Interesting confession, isn’t it ? And they did a great job convincing the readers with plausible explanations !
The more and more desperate conditon later, aside from the matter of escape, they have to deal with another virus called Tief-Blau with high mortality rate. For some reason, “Tief-Blau” is similar to “TuBerculosis”, judging from its symptoms…
Everyone is infected, except Tsugumi with her “highly improved immune system”. There is no cure at this time…and the protagonist, Takeshi, proposed a gambling decision by using Tsugumi’s antibodies to keep them alive…
Will they survive or not ? Will the manage to escape or not ? I’ll leave it to your imagination then :p
3. Remember 11
The third title of Infinity Series, with more plot twist, but this time it deals mainly with time loop, particle physics, aside from DJungian archetype…but I found several interesting facts about Pharmacy too 😀
The first thing that piques my interest is the opening video . They introduced such as mysterious (?) [because I can’t tell it at a glance dammit] chemical substance, which is on the later part, become an important key to the story.
They even introduced DSM here, because one of the protagonist deals with dissociative identity disorder patient!
Another fun fact is about MAO inhibitor and hallucinogenic drugs.
Let’s quote what Utsumi said
“Normally, simply ingesting DMT wouldn’t be enough to cause a hallucination on its own.The oxygen from the monoamine oxidation agent that naturally exists in the body acts to destroy the active ingerdient in DMT.However, it’s a different story when it’s used together with harmine and harmaline. The MAO inhibitor supresses that oxygenating ability, hindering the metabolism of the DMT. As a result, the hallucinogeninic chemical remains in the blood”
It’s consequent with the explanation I found on some articles on the net.
“DMT is generally not active orally unless it is combined with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (RIMA), for example, harmaline. Without an MAOI, the body quickly metabolizes orally administered DMT, and it therefore has no hallucinogenic effect unless the dose exceeds monoamine oxidase’s metabolic capacity.”
And that’s concludes the chemical on the beginning. It’s dimethyltriptamine. No doubt about it. I’ve checked on ChemDraw too out of curiosity before I read the story. :p
Wait a minute…I forget this one !
I’m not familiar with this drugs, though. Is it only fictional ? Lol.
So ? Interesting isn’t it ? There are so many facts I haven’t been discovered of course, but I’ve tried my best so far. By the way, this isn’t the end yet. Because only you’re on the infinite loop. Hahahaha. Just kidding. I will definitely continue this discussion later when I have another time. So, good day for you !
